Bør ortodontien inddrages i bidrehabiliteringen hos voksne patienter?
Livskvalitet indtager en stadig større plads i vor hverdag. Til livskvalitet hører både æstetik og funktion relateret til tandsættet. Dét at bevare egne tænder livet igennem og at undgå aftagelige proteser er en væsentlig faktor i relation til livskvalitet. Der ses en stadigt stigende interesse i totale rekonstruktioner, og fast protetik og implantater er blevet en fast bestanddel af voksentandpleje. Inddragelse af tandforskydninger i behandlingen af den voksne patient med det degenererende tandsæt kan imidlertid både forbedre den parodontale status og æstetikken samt forbedre prognosen for den nødvendige rekonstruktion. Større ortodontisk behandling kombineret med mindre omfattende rekonstruktion, eller mindre ortodontisk behandling og mere omfattende rekonstruktion vil ofte være valget. Under alle omstændigheder vil det være en fordel at inddrage ortodonti i det tilgængelige armamentarium ved behandlingen af den voksne patient.
The role of orthodontics in rehabilitation of the degenerated dentition: An increasing number of adult patients are treated by the orthodontist. A major part of the patients present with s ec- ondary malocclusions as a result of an ongoing degeneration leading to loss of teeth and periodontium. An important issue for the general dentist is to prevent this development. Standardized photos can used to follow a development. Rehabilitation should be done as a team work, and the level of information determines the benefit the different colleges can obtain. The inclusion of orthodontics in a re-habilitation can ensure that the best long-term prognosis for the remaining teeth by generation of a better basis for both implants and fixed prosthetics.
