Behandling af masseterhypertrofi med botulinumtoksin. En oversigt og præsentation af et patienttilfælde
Masseterhypertrofi er en relativt sjælden forekommende tilstand med ensidig eller dobbeltsidig forstørrelse af musculus masseter. Ætiologien og pato- genesen er ukendt. Tilstanden forekommer oftest i 20-30-års-alderen og præsenterer sig klinisk som en fast, langsomt voksende og asymptomatisk forstørrelse af musculus masseter. Masseterhypertrofi kræ- ver ofte ingen behandling, men ved kosmetiske gener kan der foretages partiel kirurgisk resektion af musklen. I nærværende artikel præsenteres behandling med botulinumtoksin af unilateral masseterhypertrofi hos en 18-årig mand.

Treatment of masseteric hypertrophy with botulinum toxin. A survey and a case report: Masseteric hypertrophy is a relatively uncommon condition which is characterized by unilateral or bilateral en largement of the masseter muscles. The etiology as well as the pathogenesis is unknown. However, the condition is frequently seen following clenching, bruxism, and constant gum chewing. Masseteric hypertrophy usually occurs in the second and third decades of life, and is not genderspecific. Patients with masseteric hypertrophy and cosmetic disfigurement have traditionally been managed surgically with significant morbidity. A case of an 18–year-old man with unilateral masseteric hypertrophy, treated by botulinum toxin is presented.
