Pleomorft adenom
Pleomorphic adenoma (Benign mixed tumor). A survey and a case report: Salivary gland tumors are uncommon comprising only 3 % of all head and neck tumors. Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common benign salivary gland tumor and accounts for about 80 % of all salivary neoplasms. The tumor may occur in all salivary glands, although there is a preference for the parotid gland. The etiology as well as the pathogenesis of the tumor is unknown. PA usually appears between the ages of 30 and 60 years as a painless, slowly growing, firm mass. Surgical excision is the treatment of choice and recurrence is rare. A case of a 70-year-old man with a PA in the buccal mucosa is presented. The tumor was surgically removed and the histological examination revealed a PA. Healing was uneventful.
